Much of the mlm training material you'll find online is centered around generating mlm leads for your network marketing business.

The experts do a great job of coaching you on how to find not only the very best "business builders," but also how to do it an the most efficient way possible.

However, what you may or may not have been told is that generating mlm leads is not always a piece of cake.

Sure, your attitude does play a factor in how successful you'll be but one shouldn't ignore the fact that mlm lead generation is a compeitive business.

With the fairly recent proliferation of web 2.0 and all of the attraction marketing experts out there promoting the concept it's bound to get even more competitive. I don't say this to discourage you but rather to empower you to think outside the box.

Perhaps a different approach to generating mlm leads might be an intelligent way to go. Maybe focusing your efforts on generating mlm leads using retail as your focus might be a good way to immediately differientiate yourself from the "mlm" crowd.

If you think about it, the retail side of mlm is not promoted as heavily due to the lack of potential leverage and/or income. This means your competition wont be as heavy nor will you run the risk of sounding like "everyone else."

On top of that, within your retail customer base, you're bound to find business builders who might be interested in promoting the business side of the company, allowing you to accomplish what you first set out to do, but in a counterintuivitve way. In this two part article series, I plead my case for why you should take a long, hard look at learning to generate mlm leads for the retail component of your business.

I'll cover why this might be important for diversification reasons and how to still take advantage of attraction marketing.

Why Generate MLM Leads For Retail?

This is a question just about every serious network marketer asks himself at one time or another. I mean, it's obvious the million dollar earners in mlm didn't create their fortunes by selling millions of dollars worth of shampoo, at least not directly.

They created a network which allowed them to leverage the efforts of other people. Keeping that mind, let's briefly explore what network marketing is all about... Network marketing survives on retail sales. That is what the company is paying you to do; sell product.

Either directly, or through the recruitment of other people who in turn buy the product for their own personal consumption.

In essence, the network marketing company is not paying you to recruit more people, only to move product.

Everyone knows that recruitment is the fastest and most leveraged way to do this but nevertheless, the concept stays the same.

If you understand the purpose of not only network marketing, but of other businesses as well, you can see how if you generate mlm leads for retail, you might be helping your chances.

In fact, many mlm companies require that you sell a certain amount of product directly (not through sponsorships) in order to qualify for bonuses and such.

That alone should illustrate for you the fact that mlm companies (and the FTC) take direct selling very seriously. The last thing they want to be accused of is becoming a pyramid scheme so they will ensure they are moving product in an ethical way.

Diversifying any business is just plain smart. It allows you to take advantage of multiple streams of income and sets you up for success.

What if your primary income stream begins to go downhill?...you still have other sources of income you can rely on or "scale up" to keep yourself afloat and even prosper.
